The US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of The Blue Cactus Company 2500 mAh battery packs for reclining chairs on September 24, 2026. The lithium-ion battery can overheat, creating fire and burn hazards. CPSC says about 51,000 units are affected.
Stop using the battery pack immediately
Disconnect a possible match from the reclining chair and stop charging or using it while you verify the model. Do not repeatedly operate the chair or recharge the battery to test whether it becomes warm. If disconnecting it would require handling a hot, swollen, leaking, smoking, hissing or otherwise damaged pack, move away, keep others away and contact local emergency services for an immediate fire danger.
How to identify the recalled product
The recall covers The Blue Cactus Company Reclining Chair 2500 mAh battery pack with model number RWX-RBP02. It is black, with The Blue Cactus Company logo and brand name printed on the front. The model number is printed on the rear.
The packs were designed to work with various reclining-chair brands, so the chair manufacturer's name alone cannot rule the battery in or out. Check the label on the battery pack itself. A black recliner battery that looks similar is not enough to establish a match without the model number.
Who may have one?
The affected battery packs were sold on Amazon.com from May 2023 through July 2026 for about $105. Search the purchaser's Amazon order history when the package or receipt is missing. Save the order record, photographs of both sides of the battery and the model label before contacting the company.
Why the recall matters
CPSC is aware of four reports involving the batteries overheating, smoking or igniting. No injury count is listed in the federal recall notice. A battery that has not shown visible damage can still be recalled when its model matches, so do not wait for heat or smoke before acting.
How to request the replacement
- Stop using and charging the pack.
- Photograph the front, rear and readable RWX-RBP02 model label.
- Record the Amazon order information when available.
- Contact The Blue Cactus Company at recall@thebluecactuscompany.com or use the “Important Recall Information” link on its official website.
- Follow the company's current replacement and return or disposal instructions and retain its confirmation.
The federal remedy is a replacement battery pack. The notice does not advise owners to repair the recalled pack, replace cells themselves or continue using it while awaiting the replacement.
Do not use household trash or ordinary battery bins
CPSC specifically says not to place this recalled lithium-ion battery in household trash, curbside recycling, the general recycling stream or used-battery collection boxes at retail and home-improvement stores. Recalled lithium-ion batteries need different handling because of their elevated fire risk.
Contact the municipal household hazardous-waste facility before transporting the battery and state that it is a recalled lithium-ion device. Ask whether the facility accepts it and follow its packaging, transport and drop-off instructions. If it does not accept recalled batteries, ask the municipality and the recall company for the proper route. Do not mail or ship the pack unless the recall company and carrier provide a compliant method.
United States and Canada limits
This article explains US CPSC recall 26-791 and its US replacement route. It does not establish a Canadian recall or Canadian replacement entitlement. A Canadian owner of a matching cross-border purchase should stop using the pack, search the Government of Canada's recalls database and contact the company for jurisdiction-specific instructions. Local transport and disposal requirements still apply.
Keep a short record
Retain the model number, order details, photographs and the company's response until the replacement and disposal steps are complete. Do not sell, donate or give away a recalled pack. US product incidents can also be reported through CPSC's SaferProducts.gov system.
