The US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of NEWDERY model ZHX-PB22 power banks on September 24, 2026. The lithium-ion battery can explode or ignite, creating fire and burn hazards. CPSC says about 21,380 units are affected.
Stop using and charging it first
Immediately stop using a possible match and disconnect it from phones, cables and chargers. Do not charge it again to test whether it works. Keep it away from heat, combustible material, children and pets while you verify the model and obtain current handling instructions.
How to identify the recalled power bank
The recalled product is a black NEWDERY power bank with yellow built-in cables. “NEWDERY” is engraved on the front and model number ZHX-PB22 is printed on the back. Match the model number rather than relying only on colour, cable style or brand name; this notice does not say that every NEWDERY battery product is recalled.
The units were sold on Amazon.com from October 2023 through November 2024 for about $27 to $50. If the label is difficult to read, check the purchaser's Amazon order history and compare the official CPSC product photographs before acting.
Why the recall matters
NEWDERY received nine reports of the power banks exploding and igniting. CPSC says those reports include one serious fire causing $2 million in property damage and one burn injury. A unit that has operated normally can still be included when its model matches.
Refund evidence to prepare
- Stop using and charging the power bank.
- Photograph the back so the model and serial number are readable.
- Follow NEWDERY's instructions to mark the product with the word “recalled” and the consumer's last name in permanent marker, then photograph it.
- Contact NEWDERY through its official recall page, by email at support@newdery.com, or by phone at 888-256-6673 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern, Monday through Friday.
- Keep the submitted photographs and refund confirmation.
Review the company's current instructions before marking or moving the unit. If it is hot, swollen, leaking, smoking, hissing or damaged, do not handle it merely to complete a photograph. Move away, keep others away and contact local emergency services for an immediate fire danger.
Do not put it in household trash or ordinary battery recycling
CPSC specifically warns not to place this recalled lithium-ion device in household trash, curbside recycling, the general recycling stream or the used-battery collection boxes found at many retailers. Recalled lithium-ion batteries require different handling because of their fire risk.
Ask the municipal household hazardous-waste program whether it accepts recalled lithium-ion batteries and disclose that the item is under recall before taking it anywhere. Follow NEWDERY's refund instructions and the facility's transport and drop-off directions. Do not mail or ship the battery unless the recall company and carrier explicitly provide a compliant method.
United States and Canada limits
This article explains US CPSC recall 26-792 and its US refund process. It does not establish a Canadian recall or Canadian refund entitlement. A Canadian owner of a matching cross-border purchase should stop using it, check the Government of Canada's recalls database and contact NEWDERY for jurisdiction-specific instructions. Local battery transport and disposal rules still apply in both countries.
After the refund request
Do not sell, donate or give away the recalled unit. Retain the model, serial number, order record, photographs and the company's response until the refund and disposal steps are complete. Product incidents in the United States can also be reported through CPSC's SaferProducts.gov system.
